Welcome to the Backstreet Boys 2010 Cruise Pre-SAILinformation post. If you are a FAN CLUB MEMBER, this is for you!

Backstreet Boys Cruise December 9 13, 2010

The Carnival Destiny will be departing from Miami, Florida on December 9th for 4 fun days at sea. The ship will stop in Key West and Cozumel before returning back to Miami on the morning of December 13th.

There will be a limited number of cabins available to FAN CLUB MEMBERS first. This is an exclusive offer; book on March 15th to guarantee your cabin selection.

Pre-SAIL tickets will go on sale Monday, March 15th at 12:00pm EST.

If you are NOT a Fan Club Member, your reservation will be discarded! ***Your credit card will automatically be billed and it will take up to 2 billing cycles to receive a refund. You will need to resubmit your reservation once the cruise is open to the general public on March 22nd, 2010 at 12:00PM EST.***

As long as there is at least one Fan Club Member in your cabin, you can book during the pre-SAIL, March 15th 2010 at 12:00PM EST.

To book during the pre-SAIL, please go to the Cruise news post (this post) at www.backstreetboys.com and follow the instructions. Once you enter the reservation page, you will be prompted to enter a username and password. The username and password will be posted in the Cruise news post (this post!) right before the pre-SAIL. You will have to log in as a fan club member in order to view the Cruise news post at that point.

***When making your reservation, please have all names, addresses, birth dates and credit card information for each passenger in your cabin. This way each passenger can be charged separately. If you put in just one (1) credit card, that card will be charged the deposit for everyone in the cabin.***

Rates are as follows*:

Inside Cabin starting at $799 per person based on double occupancy
Ocean View Cabin starting at $899 per person based on double occupancy
Balcony Cabins starting at $999 per person based on double occupancy
Suites starting at $1899 per person based on double occupancy

Triple and Quad pricing will be less than double occupancy. Single prices will be higher than double occupancy. All prices will be listed on the reservations page on the day of the pre-SAIL.

*Additional taxes, fees & gratuities will apply.

$300 per person deposit due at time of booking. $400 per person payment due July 1st, and final payment will be due October 1st.

Public on-sale will be on Monday, March 22nd at 12:00pm EST.

Please note Only cabins booked through backstreetboys.com will be able to attend the private Backstreet Boys Events.

Guests under the age of 21 years must be accompanied by a parent, relative or guardian 25 years of age or older in the same stateroom. Guests aged 18, 19, or 20 can have a friend be their guardian, but the friend must fill out forms provided by the cruise line accepting responsibility.

There are handicap accessible cabins available. When making your reservation, please note in the comments section that you are requesting an accessible cabin. Once the cruise line receives your reservation, they will send you a medical form to complete.

A.J. McLean Reveals Engagement Details!

On Friday,Backstreet Boysfans everywhere let out a collective sigh when another member,A.J. McLean, went off the market, proposing to girlfriend Rochelle Karidis. The boy-bander spoke to MTV News about the engagement and said he couldn't have picked a better girl to make his future Mrs. McLean.

While celebrating his birthday last weekend, McLean said he knew it was time to make Karidis an honest woman.

"I have had this on my mind for months now, and there was talks amongst me and some of the friends of mine, and actually, I kind if brought it up to [bandmate] Howie [Dorough] once before, as well as Nick [Carter], about possibly doing it on New Year's," he revealed. "I said, 'No, I'm going to wait a little bit longer.' Something clicked. We were having dinner at Nobu prior to it, and I was like, 'I'm just done. I'm done, and this is the one, and she's absolutely phenomenal.' "

He very publicly asked her to marry him at a gig on Friday, which also happened to fall on his 32nd birthday. He admitted that he didn't have a doubt that she would accept his proposal. "I [wasn't] nervous that she'd say no," he said. "I was more nervous that she wouldn't feel comfortable in front of a crowd."

McLean said proposing onstage was the way he always imagined he would pop the question. "That was something else that I always wanted to do," he said. "I kind of had this childhood fantasy of, once I do propose, it's just somehow got to be onstage. I just went up there and grabbed a mic."

Karadis and McLean have been dating for nearly a year, and the Backstreet Boy said he's found his match. "She is my true best friend," he said. "She is absolutely amazing. She's very talented ... supportive ... understanding. She's everything you can possibly want in someone, plus 10-gazllion more. That night, I looked at her, and I was like, 'I'm gonna do it tonight.' "

Now to the important stuff: the bling. "The ring is actually a one of a kind," McLean explained. "It is a square head with princess-cut diamonds surrounding and a one-carat diamond in the center and there's also about 20 or 25 princess-cut diamonds on the actual band. It's a gorgeous ring."

McLean isn't the only Backstreet Boy excited about the engagement. "Nick was extremely happy for me," he said. "Howie didn't know. I actually texted Howie [on my birthday] ... and he sent me one back all capitals, all exclamation points: 'Finally! Congratulations.' And I haven't heard from Brian yet, but I have heard through management, because Brian has been swamped with his family, that he sends his best."

We noticed that there is a lot of talk surrounding some of the VIPpackages and exactly what you as fans are entitled to in the VIP experience. Wewant every single one of you to experiencesomething incredible at the show,and walk away with memories of a lifetime. We offer the VIP packages forthis specific reason-- to allow you guys to have this kind of unparalleledexperience. Unfortunately, there are always going to be unforeseen factorsbeyond our control that don't allow every single fan who attends the show tohave the same, identical experience. Thismessage should lay out some of thosefactors, as well as attempt to clear up any misunderstandings that have beengoing on.

While the Platinum Package includes a backstage tour, never does itpromise that it will be given by any member of the band. Tours given by one ofthe boys are meant to be a special surprise that we are only able to do whenthe circumstances allow us to do so.This is part of the and more bonus of the VIPSimilarly, having front row access was never promised inthe package either, and was also meant to be a special treat. This also goes foradditional photos backstage with the band member giving thetour, early access to the merch booth, and a free year long extension on yourfan club membership. None of these things were ever aguaranteed part of thepackage, but a special bonus.

At times, due to situations beyondour control (traffic, production delays, etc), we can't start soundcheck ontime and we run into a timing issueregarding when the doors MUST open. Inthese cases, we give everyone the option to either go on the tour or staybehind and get front row. InNick personally asked everyone if theywanted to go on a tour with him. Givingthis option fulfills our end of the VIP package. However, everyone chose toleave Nick behind and get front row.

Please understand that we at ground(ctrl)and management always try to do whatever we can to ensure a wonderful fanexperience for all of you, and while things may not always go as smoothly aspossible due to outside factors, we willalways attempt to fulfill, at the veryleast, the benefits that are listed in the description of the package that youpurchase. We would love for everyone to walk away having had a wonderfulexperience, so we hope this message helps to clear up some of these unfortunatebut inevitable issues.

On a final note, we have been having overseas internetdifficulties but Justin is working ongetting all the SC photos up in a timelymanner, as well as the shot that AJ takeswhile on stage.

With that being said, we hope to see everyone out on tour and hope thateveryone has an amazingtime at the show!!

The Backstreet Boysare back. And on their latest album,This Is Us,the guys are declaring their return to the sound that made them famous back in the late '90s.
Gone are the adult-contemporary touches they've favored in recent years. It's back to the pulsating beats and dance-music vibe. And Brian Littrell thinks now is the perfect time for the guys to show the world they still have what it takes.
"I think This Is Us is definitely the Backstreet Boys being comfortable with who we are," he told MTV News about the album, which dropped last week. "If you go back to 1995 and '96, when we first started releasing records, the thing is, those sounds that we were using then are actually back in style. The live-band sound is away. The techno drums, the Euro dance sound has taken over the airwaves with the Lady Gagas."
But Littrell is quick to point out that the guys aren't just jumping on the bandwagon of Top 40 trends. "We've been doing it for a long time," he said. "When we went back in the studio, the reason we went with this direction was we wanted to be able to dance onstage. We wanted to move around."
Since the guys have been together for so long, Littrell said critics and fans need to realize the group has to grow up. "When we do a record like This Is Us and it turned heads a little bit, like, 'Wow, it's edgier. It's different,' " Littrell said. "My thing is, back up 15 years ago, 'cause it sounds like what we were doing 15 years ago. It has a little more urban feel to it. Then again, we have to go back to our roots. We were all a bunch of Justin Timberlakes listening to R&B music before there was Justin Timberlake."
For the album, the boys hooked up with longtime collaborator Max Martin, as well as a few new faces, like Lady Gaga producer RedOne, T-Pain and Ryan Tedder.
"Everybody has us trapped in a box," he said. "Working with a guy like T-Pain, you have no choice but to get an R&B, hip-hop vibe, which is what we wanted to do. It's not just because T-Pain is T-Pain. We're fans as well, even though we're entertainers. We pulled in the Jim Johnsons, who did T.I.'s 'Whatever You Like' and Soulja Boy, what we call that dirty South sound."
For Littrell's favorite track on the album, the midtempo love ballad "Undone," the guys hooked up with OneRepublic frontman Tedder. "You can play it for anybody and you wouldn't know that it's us," he said. "That's when the song sells itself."

Climate Change: EU and MTV mobilise youth together with Backstreet Boys at the start of UN conference in Copenhagen

The European Commission and MTV Networks International announced today the main artist of the third and final concert of the "Play to Stop - Europe for Climate" campaign: Backstreet Boys. The band will play on 7 December in Copenhagen in front of hundreds of young people, coinciding with the opening day of the United Nations Climate Change Conference.

"The Copenhagen conference is one of our last chances to tackle climate change before it spirals out of control. I hope the world leaders will reach a fair and ambitious global agreement that will put us firmly on the path of sustainable development. We owe it to our children and generations to come, said Vice-President of the European Commission Margot Wallstrm.

The last concert of "Play to Stop" will mark the peak of a six-month-long campaign, which aims to raise awareness among young people about the dangers of climate change and the importance of having a European Union response to this. The initiative has also sought to mobilize youth ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference where a follow-up agreement to the Kyoto Protocol is expected to be negotiated. . Drawing audiences from around Europe, the previous concerts featured Moby in Stockholm on 20 August and Editors in Budapest on 19 September.

Launched in July 2009, "Play to Stop" targets 11 EU Member States and features TV spots, webcasts, games, and editorial content about the battle against climate change as well as three concerts with major international artists. Each concert has taken or will take place alongside a major event related to climate change: World Water Week in Stockholm, Mobility Week in Budapest, and the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.

The campaign "Play to Stop - Europe for Climate" runs in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Romania, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. The 11 target countries are represented by celebrity national ambassadors who promote efforts against climate change. Among them are Bulgarian tennis player Magdalena Maleeva, Czech singer Aneta Langerov, Danish singer Anna David, French actor Paslac Lgitimus, German actor Tobias Schenke, Hungarian aerobic champion Attila Katus, Italian TV star Paola Maugeri, Polish entertainer Michal Pirg and Romanian climate activist Serban Miron Copot.

Throughout the campaign, young people are encouraged to exchange opinions about climate change and how to protect the environment on the "Play to Stop" website at www.mtvplay4climate.eu

Background: EU Climate action

The goal of the UN conference in Copenhagen in December is to find a new global climate deal to take over from the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012. Early action is needed: climate destabilization is already a reality, and any delay in reaching an agreement will inevitably delay global action and worsen the effects of climate change.

The European Union already plays a leading role in the global fight against climate change. In December 2008 the EU adopted an integrated energy and climate change policy, setting ambitious targets for 2020. It hopes to set Europe on the right track - towards a sustainable future with a low-carbon, energy-efficient economy by:

* cutting greenhouse gases by 20% (30% if international agreement is reached)
* reducing energy consumption by 20% through increased energy efficiency
* meeting 20% of our energy needs from renewable sources.

BRIAN LITTRELL DIAGNOSED WITH SWINE FLU

The Backstreet Boys are sad to announce they have cancelled todays NYC PINKTOBER Hard Rock Caf signing due to member, Brian Littrell having been diagnosed with the Swine Flu. The other 3 members, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough and AJ McLean have seen a doctor and are not showing any symptoms. As a preventive measure, the doctor has prescribed Tamiflu to the group and their touring party, who had just returned to the states from Tokyo.

This unfortunate occurrence will also result in the cancelling of the groups CBS Early Show performance tomorrow, Tuesday October 6th. BSB was scheduled to perform their new single Straight Through My Heart. The intimate performance at PC Richards (downtown) has also been cancelled and rescheduled for a later date.

We were really looking forward to spending time with our closest fans and friends in NYC and take part of PINKTOBER, an unbelievable and important program Littrell says. I hope we can come back soon and do everything we can to help.

The Backstreet Boys are in New York in support of their new album THIS IS US, out tomorrow, October 6th on Jive Records. The rest of the bands promotional schedule for this week has not been determined. Details to come.

Phoenix, AZ. A stunning spectacle of art and sport will culminate on Friday, October 23 2009 at the US Airways Center with Kristi Yamaguchi & Friends Starring the Backstreet Boys. The seventh year of Figure Skating icon Kristi Yamaguchis televised skating special will pull no stops with an amazing cast of Kristis close skating friends and live music guests the Backstreet Boys. The show will air on NBC Sunday, November 1st 2009 4:00- 6:00PM EST.

As part of Major League Baseballs All-Star game, last night not only saw the annual Home Run Derby but also the Celebrity Softball Game. The contest pit two teams of famous folk (including Olympian Shawn Johnson, Mad Mens Jon Hamm and Billy Bob Thornton) each other, with guidance from a group of baseball legends. But the two great performances came from the music world, with the Backstreet Boys Brian Littrell hustling after fly balls and St. Louis rapper Nelly delivering huge with a two-run home run that he drove 375 feet (not as impressive as Prince Fielders 500 foot drive, but one is a professional and the other isnt).
